WHAT IS HAND?
Established in 1999, H.A.N.D. is a voluntary nonprofit charitable 501(c)(3) organization which is dedicated to providing veterinary care, comprehensive evaluation to animals who are abandoned, mistreated, or neglected throughout Chattanooga and surrounding cities in our Tri -State area. H.A.N.D. was started originally to assist animals in need in shelters who were adoptable other than needing some medical care that was beyond the finances of the shelter. H.A.N.D.then proceeded to help other animals in need of medical treatment who were rescued by individuals that could not afford such treatment. Because of this additional program, we were able to assist in paying for surgery for thousands of animals and many other treatments necessary for the well-being of the homeless animal.
WHY HAND?
In addition to services for hundreds of young, healthy animals, H.A.N.D. is particularly proud of its "MFA Fund", Medical Finance Assistance which enables shelters, rescues, and individuals that are not 501(c)(3) able to receive assistance with the cost of health care which has launched a significant growth in foster homes in our area. There is a definite need for H.A.N.D. because treatment of sick and injured animals has been the most stressful part of shelters. Most shelters have limited funds due to housing and feeding and the fact most individuals pay out of their own pocket. With the help of H.A.N.D. the shelters and rescues of this community will be able to continue their work without the stress of health care cost.
HOW DOES HAND WORK?
Shelters and rescue organizations contact H.A.N.D. when there is a need for assistance from the foundation for a animals healthcare. If you know of a homeless animals in need of medical treatment you can also apply for assistance. After review, you are notified of participation in the program. Because funds are low at times, it may take awhile to raise the money needed for treatment. After receipt of the application, we will fax or mail a letter of introduction to their veterinarian, informing them of the program, introducing ourselves, and asking that the vet work with us on payment arrangements for the animal's medical needs.
The homeless animals that are participating in the program will be listed online, with their medical needs and bio, the estimated cost of treatment, and how much money has been raised for their needs so far. All donations to H.A.N.D. is tax deductible, and receipts will be sent to those donating funds for this worthwhile cause. The animals bio is listed along with a photo of the animal in need, and we will make every effort to raise the money needed for treatment.
